On Good Friday four years ago, a man asked me to marry him.
I asked in reply… Have you asked my Mom?
‘Yes,’ he smiled nervously whilst on his knees.
What did she say?
‘She said yes’.
I heard giggles from behind and saw friends and family excited and cheering us on.
I gave Cameron a hug but it’s a pretty big deal having someone ask for a lifetime with you so I was in no rush to say yes. I asked some more…
Will you be good?
Will you put God first?
Cameron said yes to both but having heard no affirmative answer from me he then gently insisted, ‘You have to say yes now, Honey…’
I think that made me laugh and forget about actually saying yes.
Cam reckons I ‘technically didn’t but all’s well that ends well.
Laughter = Yes?
I definitely said ‘I do’ on our wedding day though!
Cameron and I have known each other for close to five years now.
Every day, I’m still excited to come home to him and every night we have to spend apart is still a pain (when I’m on school camp or a conference).
He still makes me laugh and we continue to discover more about each other.
We have gotten better at resolving conflicts, with me learning humility and him learning that sometimes an embrace is all that I need, not advice, not an explanation.
Marriage, God’s design, is beautiful.
And how good is it that Cam proposed on the day when we remember the greatest act of love ever?
Yes, Jesus hung on the Cross so that you and I can be part of God’s family.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16
Jesus is both our source and model for love that is true.
We pray the same for you.
